HOW TO PLAN AN INTIMATE BRISBANE CITY ELOPEMENT: THE BEST MICRO WEDDING LOCATIONS IN BRISBANE
Elopements and micro weddings are becoming more popular than ever! As a Brisbane elopement photographer, I frequently chat to couples who are wanting to do away with the hype (and do away with the astronomical costs!) , and prioritise an intimate celebration with their loved ones, that genuinely feels like an extension of who they are.
Whether this looks like a registry ceremony followed by rooftop cocktails, a romantic long lunch with family, or an intimate getaway in the hinterland, micro weddings give couples the freedom to create a wedding day without the drama of a big wedding day.
And honestly, I’m a little biased, but Brisbane has some of the best locations to get married! You may not think it at first, but the more you dive into Brisbane’s event spaces and restaurants, the more incredible gems and inspiration you’ll discover.
Today I'm going to be taking you through my 5 best Brisbane elopement and micro wedding locations, both conventional and unconventional!
Miss Midgley’s Guesthouse: An Intimate Brisbane Elopement Venue in Fortitude Valley
Genuinely one of the most underrated Brisbane micro wedding ceremony and reception venues, Miss Midgley’s is your ideal spot for your discreet elopement soiree in the city!
Nestled in James St, Miss Midgley’s is one of Brisbane’s oldest heritage homes. Full of character and life, this 160 year old building is made up of 5 private apartments, where guests are offered tranquility and thoughtful touches, not to mention a heated outdoor pool, private courtyards, a library, and a dog friendly stay!
Miss Midgley’s welcomes couples eloping or hosting a micro wedding. The best part? You can have your ceremony and reception all in one location, and then fall into bed in the heart of the city straight after!
You do not want to plan your wedding without considering Miss Midgley’s. Take a look below for some ceremony and reception inspo at Miss Midgley’s.
2. Rosmarino Restaurant: A European-Inspired Brisbane Micro Wedding Venue
Located in Fortitude Valley beside the iconic Brooki Bakehouse, Rosmarino hosts a limited number of thoughtful and intimate weddings each year, making it perfect for couples wanting a more personalised Brisbane elopement or micro wedding experience. The venue is best suited to celebrations of around 50–80 guests, with couples able to choose between three unique ceremony and reception spaces: the courtyard, the main restaurant, and the private dining room.
Owner and wedding coordinator Lauren works closely with couples to thoughtfully bring their Brisbane micro wedding vision to life, with a strong focus on meaningful connection, warm hospitality, and unforgettable food shared around the table.
If you’re searching for a Brisbane wedding venue with exceptional Italian hospitality and an elevated all-in-one ceremony and reception experience, Rosmarino is absolutely worth considering for your Brisbane elopement or intimate wedding celebration.
3.Iris Rooftop Bar for a Modern Brisbane Reception Venue
Panaromic city rooftop views, and warm Mediterranean-inspired interiors, give Iris Rooftop in Fortitude Valley the perfect, relaxed and inner city vibe to your Brisbane city reception. It’s perfect for couples who want an elevated cocktail reception, without things feeling overly formal. Iris Rooftop works especially well for sunset drinks after a registry wedding, or canapés with a larger group of friends and family.
My dear couple, Claire and Luke, chose Iris Rooftop, as it paired perfectly for a sunny afternoon drink after eloping at The Brisbane Registry.
4. Barry’s Place: A Creative Brisbane Elopement Venue in Fortitude Valley
Okay, I absolutely guarantee you have NEVER thought of having your Brisbane elopement at a photo studio!!!
However, it is increasingly more common to see photo studios transforming into cosy and stylish event spaces.
If you’re looking for a modern and intimate Brisbane elopement venue in the heart of the city, Barry’s Place is such a unique option for couples planning a creative micro wedding in Brisbane. Their studio is nestled on the second floor above Barry Parade public bar, and feels like an extension of a classic Brisbane Queenslander home. How cool!
Barry’s Place, complete with a candlelit dinner, and a projector screen of you and your partner’s sweetest times together, would be an unforgettable night in the city to celebrate your love. Take a look at a recent elopement styled shoot I shot at Barry’s below.
5. The Brisbane Registry Office for Intimate Brisbane Elopements
The Brisbane Registry Office has become one of the most popular locations for Brisbane elopements and intimate city weddings, especially for couples wanting a meaningful ceremony without the overwhelm of a large traditional wedding!
The Brisbane Registry is ideal for couples planning a relaxed registry office wedding in Brisbane CBD. What surprises most couples is how elevated it actually feels (literally!). Located on level 32 in Brisbane CBD, the ceremony rooms have beautiful city views and a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. For couples planning an intimate day, a wedding at The Brisbane Registry removes a huge amount of stress, logistics, and cost.
Honestly though, the one thing I wouldn’t skimp on is a nice reception and couple portraits after, as your hire of the ceremony space is usually limited to a max of 30 minutes only. You want to make sure you maximise your quality time with your spouse and guests after all!
Make sure to book your interview with The Registry to select your 3 ideal wedding dates, submit your documents, and discuss ceremony options. Dates book out quickly, with Fridays and popular dates booking up at least 2 months in advance.
It’s worth noting too, many couples wonder how soon out they should book their micro wedding photography at The Brisbane Registry.
My advice? You should definitely enquire with your photographer with some ideal dates you’d love to be married on before you book your interview with The Registry. This allows your photographer to keep communication open about their availability while you lock in your date with The Registry, and ensures you don’t miss out on your dream date with your dream photographer!
